by Karen M. Cheung

FujifilmApril 6, 2007 – Fujifilm Corp. today announced its entrance into the industrial inkjet printer market, with hints of upcoming printers geared for the graphic arts business. Manufactured by the UK Fujifilm Sericol (FFSR), Fuji will begin to offer printer products with UV and solvent ink in North America.

The new UV ink hardens when activated by ultraviolet rays and can print on various materials.  Solvent ink is an organic printing substance. Both are ideal for commercial business, according to a company press release today, because of possible outdoor uses. In addition to paper, the UV ink and solvent ink can adhere to plastic, vinyl, film, and metals, to be used for outdoor billboards and signs.

Fuji acquired the Sericol Group in 2005.

“Fujifilm plans to continue to expand and develop its graphic arts business, which is one of its core businesses,” according to the release.

Fuji’s commercial inkjet ventures will start in North America with its anticipated customers to include screen printing, sign display printing company, photo laboratories, and other commercial printers.
