Epson Relelases Hybrid Compact Photo Printer And Photo Frame
by Richard Baguley

Combination printers and photo frames seem to be in this year: Epson has just announced the PictureMate Show, a new device that combines a 4 by 6 photo printer with a 7-inch photo frame.

Epson claim that the new $300 PictureMate Show can produce a 4 by 6 print in around 37 seconds, with a print resolution of 5760 by 1400 dots per inch (dpi). The printer uses special packs of combination paper and ink that come in capacities of 150 gloosy or 100 matte sheets at a cost of $38 or $32. That works out at a cost per print of about 25 cents a print for glossy and 32 cents for matte. Epson claims a print life of 96 years under glass or 200 years in album storage.

The hybrid device also includes 270MB of memory that can be used to store and display images on the screen, as well as  USB,  CompactFlash, SD Card and Memory Stick ports. The screen itself is 7 inches ont eh diagonal, with a resolution of 800 by 480 pixels. The screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio, the same as a HDTV. A remote control is also included, and the built-in software offers 12 slideshow formats to show off images.

The Epson PictureMate Show costs $299.99, and is available now.
